Morning Supervision
Please do not drop your child in front of school before 7:45 a.m. We do not have supervision for the children before 7:45 a.m.

Good-Touch Bad-Touch
Our Good Touch Bad Touch program is scheduled to begin next Tues. Oct. 4.

All students need a signed permission slip to participate in the program. Students without consent to participate will sit in the school office during religion. Students that sit in the office will be given an independent religion assignment.

All parents received a Just for Parents booklet on the Good-Touch Bad-Touch program in the first family envelope.

Your child may have some questions for you during the time our program is in session.

Parish Nurse
Our parish nurse, Vanessa, will conduct a hearing test for our kinder and second grade students next Tues. Oct. 4.

Choicelunch
Sixth grade parents interested in earning lunch credit for your child? Please call the school ASAP and sign up for the month of October.

Parents need to have Virtus training and be fingerprinted to volunteer to work for lunch credit.

ITBS Testing
We continue with the ITBS testing until this Thursday Sept. 29. This week is for students that need to do any make up ITBS testing.

Title I Parent Workshop
Interested in assisting your child with their problem solving skills? Join us tonight Tues., Sept. 27, for a Developing Problem Solving Skills workshop.  

Rebekah Wings will present Developing Problem Solving Skills at 6:00 p.m. in the sixth grade classroom.

Teacher Luncheon
We want to thank our seventh grade room parent Mrs. Regina Martinez and the seventh grade parents for providing the delicious lunch from Panda Express.

School Choirs
Choir started this week (forms were given Thursday, Sept. 22)
Before-school: Tuesday and Thursday 7:30-7:55 a.m.
After-school: Tuesdays from 3:05-4:00 p.m.

Grades 2-3: Precorder order forms are due this week.
Grade 4: Order forms for recorder and book were given Tuesday Sept. 27. Please return this week.

Fresh & Easy Shopping Night
We’ll be shopping at the Eagle Rock Fresh & Easy Store this Thursday, Sept. 29 between the hours of 4-8 pm.

No School
Students do not have school on Friday, Sept. 30 and Mon. Oct. 3.  Teachers have an all day in-service at Holy Redeemer on Friday, Sept. 30.  We will be working here at school on our WASC writings for our certificate of accreditation on Mon. Oct. 3.

Preschool
We want thank these parents for responding to our preschool need:

Mrs. Patricia Montes de Oca, mom to Isabel in 5th grade and Jason in kinder, donated a play kitchen set; Mrs. Laura Johnstone, mom to William in 5th grade, Hank in 3rd grade, and Miles in 1st grade, donated a castle, toys and books; Mrs. Tera Perez, mom to Alex in 1st grade, donated a slide set ; Mrs. Letty Segura, mom to Nicholas in second grade, donated books and toys; and Mr. Tolentino, dad to Nathan, in kinder donated a laptop learner, stuffed animals, puzzles, First Read and Learn Bible and toys.

Sports Schedule
“A” Girls Volleyball team plays a home game on Thurs., Sept. 29 against St. Monica Academy.

“A” Boys Football team plays St. Bernard on Tue. Sept. 27 and St. Bede on Wed. Sept. 28.

Family Survey
Please participate with this important survey for schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

This information is important to St. Dominic School so that we can receive E-rate funding. E-rate funding will allow our school to receive a discount on local phone service, long distance service, and internet access.

Our discount depends on the number of families that respond to this survey. Your family name is not needed on the survey but please put your complete address and phone number.

We need to submit the information to the LAUSD. Please return the survey by this Friday, Sept. 23.

School Improvement Surveys
We are preparing for our accreditation in the spring of 2013.  

We will survey our parents, students, parishioners, and local community on Improving Student Learning at St. Dominic School.

ITBS Testing
We started ITBS testing on Monday, Sept. 19. We only test from 8:10-12:00 noon.

Title I Parent Workshop
Interested in assisting your child with their studies?! Join us tonight Tuesday, Sept. 20 for the first of four workshops.

Rebecca Williams will be our presenter for Learning Styles. We will meet at 6:00 p.m. in the third grade classroom for the workshop.  

Fresh & Easy Shopping Night
We’ll be shopping at the Eagle Rock Fresh & Easy Store next Thursday, Sept. 29 between the hours of 4-8 pm.

The shopping night will earn St. Dominic School 5% of the store’s total sales between those hours. Please encourage all your friends, family and neighbors to come out and shop to help our school. The store is located at

Shakey’s Night
We want to thank our teachers, families and friends for your continued support of our fundraisers.

We earned $446.90 for your participation. GREAT JOB!! GREAT JOB!!

Academic Decathlon
Saturday, March 10 is the academic decathlon that is held at the L.A. Sports Arena. Our academic team will consist of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students that will compete with over 100 other Catholic schools.

We need parents to coach our students in the areas of science, literature, English, algebra, social studies, logic, current events and religion. If you are interested in earning service hours and being part of this great experience please call the school office ASAP. Coaching for these subjects can be held on week ends or evenings.

Registration for this event began yesterday, Sept. 19. Topics and study guides will be available in early October.

Teacher in-service
Students do not have school on Friday, Sept. 30 and Mon. Oct. 3. On Friday, Sept. 30, our teachers have an all day in-service with other teachers in our deanery (10 local Catholic schools). On Mon. Oct. 3, we will be working on our WASC writings for our certificate of accreditation.

Shakey’s
Join us tomorrow Wednesday, September 14, from 5-8:00 p.m. at Shakey’s Pizza. Invite your family and friends to this fun time.

We will receive proceeds for in house or take out orders.

Uniform Exchange
Mrs. Galarion, uniform chairperson, will be available for uniform exchange this Thursday, Sept. 15 from 7:30 to 8:00 a.m.

Gray physical education t-shirts and gray sweatshirts will be sold.
      
Cookie Dough
We have a few days left to sell cookie dough! Cookie dough fundraiser ends this Friday, September 16.

Please support our school by purchasing one case (6 tubs) per family.

Family Mass
Join us this Saturday, Sept. 17 for our first Family Mass of this school year. Our eighth grade students and parents are encouraged to attend the 5:00 p.m. Family Mass.

After Mass we will meet for light refreshments in the school lunch area.

ITBS Testing
We begin ITBS testing on Monday, Sept. 19. Grades 2 to 8 will start testing at 8:15 a.m.

Student Store
Our student store is now opened.  We sell during morning recess time only.

All items are sold for 50 cents. We sell chocolate milk, vanilla and chocolate ice cream cups, popsicles, Gatorade, cheese and butter popcorn, cookies, sun chips, and fruit roll ups.

NEW SCRIP!!!
Union 76 Gas Cards have joined the scrip program and will be available in $25.00 increments beginning Friday, Sept. 16.

Preschool
We are ready to open our preschool in October.

We would appreciate any toys, books, large stuffed animals, Halloween costumes, etc. that your child has outgrown.

Parking Lot
We want to make you aware that some of our parents noticed men walking and looking into cars.

Please lock your car and place important items out of sight or in the trunk.

Title I Parent Workshops
Parents, are you interested in assisting your child with their studies? Starting next Tuesday, Sept. 20 we start a series of  four workshops provided by Title I funds that will assist you and your child.

The four workshops for parents are as following: Learning Styles, Developing Your Child’s Problem Solving Skills, Reading With Your Child, and Writing With Your Child.

We encourage all parents to join us in the library for any or all of these four workshops. Please refer to the flyer by Catapult Learning.

School Choir

Preschool Restrooms
We want to thank Mr. Koenig for his work with plumbing and lowering of our sinks to meet preschool requirements.

We want to thank Mr. Perez for replacing tiles, and repairing dry wall in the preschool restrooms.

Tutoring
After school tutoring will start this week. Students from Cathedral High School and Immaculate Heart of Mary High School will tutor Monday to Thursday from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m.

Teachers have referred students for math and reading comprehension tutoring. We also take parent referrals.

Shop at Fresh & Easy from Sept. 15 to Dec. 31. We get $1 donated to our school for every $20 Fresh & Easy receipt we collect.
