Halloween Carnival
Students are to come dressed in their costumes on Fri. Oct. 28. Please remember students are not allowed to bring toy guns or weapons as part of their costume.  

Students should wear their complete school uniform on Mon. Oct. 31.

National Red Ribbon Week
This week is devoted to creating awareness about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs. The color red signals students to STOP and THINK about healthier alternatives. We will celebrate Red Ribbon Week in the following ways:
Wed. 10/26 – Students can wear a red shirt and red accessories such as socks, scarves, hats, shoes, and jewelry, with jeans.
Thu. 10/27 – Flamin’ Red Nachos. Students can purchase nachos for $1.50 at recess.  

Picture Day
Picture Day is next Wednesday, November 2.
Bartolo photography will start with kinder at 8:15 a.m.

Students are to come dressed in their complete uniform. Please wear the white polo shirt or white blouse with your school uniform. Bring the green pullover sweatshirt if you have one.

Fresh & Easy
Fresh & Easy donated 5% of their total sales for the evening of Sept. 29. It came out to $749 for St. Dominic!

Parish Fiesta
Each school family is required to work a minimum of 5 hours and can only be given a maximum of 10 hours for service. Our parish fiesta is next weekend Fri. Nov. 4th, Sat. 5th, & Sun. 6th!

Please donate to our dessert booth. You will receive service hour credit for donating to the dessert booth. The dessert donation does not count toward the required 5 service hours you work at the fiesta.

Parents may work at the fiesta without having completed the Virtus session or fingerprinting.

Title I Parent Workshop

The Title I parent workshop, Writing With Your Child, is tonight, Tues. Oct. 18.  We will meet in the 6th grade classroom from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Discovering Your Faith
Join us tonight, Tues. Oct. 18 in the Religious Education bungalow at 7:30 p.m. for Discovering Your Faith. The lecture covers Passions (Emotions) and Morality, and the eleven major passions and how they affect our moral lives. Please read Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraphs 1762 through 1802.

Uniform Exchange
Mrs. Stephanie Galarion will have uniform exchange this Thursday Oct. 20th. She needs parents to volunteer to do the 3:30 p.m. exchange.

Please call the school office at 323-255-5803 if you are able to volunteer to earn service hours for working during uniform exchange.

Choicelunch
November is 5th grade parents opportunity to earn lunch credit. Call the school office ASAP at 323-255-5803 if you are interested in earning lunch credit for your child.

Parents need to be fingerprinted and trained in Virtus before volunteering for lunch service.

Choir
Choir practice this Tuesday morning is only for girls. Thursday, Oct. 20, morning choir practice is only for the boys.

Virtus
Sixty-one percentage of our school families have now completed the Virtus class.  We need the other 39% to find a location in our local schools or parishes to attend a Virtus, Safeguard the Children, session.

Picture Day

High Schools at St. Dominic
LaSalle; coed high school, visited St. Dominic’s yesterday.  Alumna Katrina DeLa Cruz,”2008”, was one of the presenters from LaSalle High School.

Cathedral; all boys high school, visited our school today. Both 7th and 8th boys attended the presentation.

Mandatory Virtus Meeting
The mandatory Virtus training for parents is Wed.., Oct. 12 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the parish hall. The training will start promptly at 6:00 p.m.

Parents who attended a Virtus training last year are not required to attend this training.

Academic Decathlon
We had only one parent respond to coach algebra for the academic decathlon.

We will not be able to participate this year unless we get parent participation.

The deadline to submit our application is November 4.

High Schools at St. Dominic
Alverno, an all girls high school visited the 7th and 8th grade on Monday, Oct. 11.

Alemany, a coed high school, will visit and present to 7th and 8th grade on Thurs. Oct. 13.

Join in the celebration of our parish’s 0th Anniversary on Saturday, October 15 after 5pm Mass followed by a dinner in the Parish Hall.

Our St. Dominic School families will be providing all the desserts for the dinner. Please bring a favorite dessert to share with your St. Dominic family & friends on this joyous occasion!

Good-Touch Bad-Touch
Our Good Touch Bad Touch program started today.

All parents received a Just for Parents booklet on the Good-Touch Bad-Touch program in the first family envelope.

Your child may have some questions for you during the time our program is in session.

Progress Reports
Progress reports for students earning a “C” or lower were sent out today.

Please contact teachers if you have questions regarding ways to assist your child.

School Improvement Survey
We want to thank our parents that completed the online survey last week. Only 41% of our parents’ response were analyzed by surveymonkey.com.

Family Mass
Please join our 7th grade Family Mass this Saturday, Oct. 8 at 5:00 p.m.

A home language survey must be completed for newly enrolled students in kinder to 8th grade.

The California Education Code contains legal requirements which direct schools to determine the language spoken in the home of each student.

The Halloween committee will be meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 5 in the school library at 6:30 p.m.

Our Halloween Carnival day was changed from Mon. Oct. 31 to Fri. Oct. 28.

Students are allowed to come dressed in their costumes to school the morning of Fri. Oct. 28.

Students are not to bring toy guns or weapons as part of their costumes.

Title I Parent Workshop
We have had two excellent evening workshops for parents presented by Catapult Learning. At the first workshop, parents learned about their children’s preferred learning styles, how t assess what times of the afternoon or evening are ideal for homework, and techniques to assist their children based on their preferred learning style. At the second workshop, parents discussed with each other their own techniques for problem solving and learned how to include their children in solving and discussing everyday tasks that require problem solving skills.

We have had very positive feedback from the parents who have attended these workshops. The next two will be on Tues. Oct. 11 (Reading With Your Child), and Tues. Oct. 18 (Writing With Your Child). The same presenter, Rebekah Wings, will lead these next two sessions. These workshops are made available to us through Title I funds.




Cookie Dough Delivery
Cookie dough is scheduled to be delivered to parents on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Please pick up your cookie dough orders between 2:30 and 6:00 p.m.

Preschool
Thank you to Mrs. Lorca for the Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway, Construction Adventure and Rescue Ramps Fire Station toys for our preschool


School Choir
The 7:30 am practice on Tue. Oct. 4 is for everyone.
The 7:30 am practice on Thurs. Oct. 6 is for girls only.
Starting next week, all choir members can attend the Tuesday and Thursday 7:30 am practices. The after school practice on Tuesday afternoons from 3:05-4:00 pm will continue for both boys and girls.

Fresh & Easy Shopping Night
We want to thank all the parents who helped out with the shopping night. Your time, hard work and enthusiasm in making the night special are appreciated.

We ended up with 221 receipts over $20.00. We are well on our way to surpassing last year’s $251 worth of these receipts.
