Preschool
Yes! St. Dominic School added its second preschool classroom. We are licensed to have 20 students at one time in each of the classrooms. The second class opened on Monday, September 10, 2012. This class room has its own telephone number (323-255-9373) for parents who need to communicate with Mrs. Fatima Velasco. The first classroom with Mrs. Danielle Serafin also has its own telephone number (323-255-2979).
The first preschool class opened on February 13, 2012 with 32 students and two teachers. Now, we have expanded to 2 full-time teachers, 2 full time aides, and 2 morning and afternoon daycare aides.
All tuition, registration, education fees, and preschool daycare fees are paid in the school office. School office hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please visit our website, www.stdominicla.us, for the different options (days and time) our preschool offers.
Friday Lunches
The school now sells a pizza lunch every Friday. Lunch can be ordered and paid for by the week or monthly. Please call the school at (323) 255-5803 if you have a question regarding your child’s paid Friday pizza lunch.
New Students
We have a total of 28 new students in grades kinder to eighth. Our total of 46 new children in preschool is an amazing addition to our school. Overall, we have a total of 74 new students in our school. We thank our good Lord for blessing us with our new families.
Goodwill
The St. Dominic marketing team started their first fundraiser kick-off with energy and excitement in July! It has been a long two months of Sunday collections. The final day for Goodwill collections ends is Saturday, September 15.
Come by with your donation between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and help us fill the truck with loads of gently used items and help the marketing team meet their goal of raising $1500 for a truck load of items.
We need eighth grade student to assist from 9:00-4:00. Parents can earn up to 4 hours this Saturday if you volunteer to help.
Family Mass
The eighth grade students and parents will start out the school tradition of Saturday Mass attendance as an eighth grade family.
Please join us for the Family Mass this Saturday, September 15 at 5:00 p.m.
Fresh & Easy
It’s that time to save your receipts if you shop at Fresh & Easy. Our school will receive $1 for every $20 Fresh & Easy receipt we collect that is dated between Sept. 12 and Dec. 31. Mrs. Ramirez will keep you informed as to when she will mail the final receipts.
In addition to the Fresh & Easy receipt drive, it will be St. Dominic School Night at Fresh & Easy on Thursday, Sept. 13, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Fresh & Easy will donate 5% of their sales from the receipts collected between those hours.
We need parent and student volunteers to help pack groceries or ask shoppers to support our school by collecting their receipts.
Students who come in their school uniform on the St. Dominic School Night will earn a jeans day for Friday, Sept. 14.
We will start the ITBS (Iowa Test of Basic Skills) Assessments on Monday, Sept. 17 and testing will end on Thursday, Sept. 27.
Testing begins at 8:10 a.m. Please make sure that your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a nutritious breakfast during testing.
If you are scheduling your child’s doctor and dentist appointments for these weeks, please ask for afternoon appointments.
Make-up testing for absent students will be on Sept. 26 and 27.
